FHMS students took the top two spots in the 2007 National Geographic Geography Bee on Dec. 11. Seventh grader Alex Johnson emerged as the FHMS champ, and eighth grade student Vivien Poterack took second place. Coming in third place was Katie Male, a fourth grader from Four Peaks Elementary.
The top two finishers survived nine rounds of questioning on topics covering all aspects of world geography. Seventh/eighth grade social studies teacher, Mr. Tim Yoder coordinates the annual event. This year, he was assisted by colleagues Mr. Chris Peterson, Mr. Todd Senoraske, and Mr. Michael Spaeth, who served as judges.
The champion will go on to the Arizona State competition April 4, 2008.
Great job, ALL participants!
