Welcome Back, Falcons

This beautiful rattle snake paid a visit to the courtyard in June!Summer draws to a close, and we are ready to rock on another great year at FHMS! Here are some of the important dates to be aware of:

Aug. 5, 3-4 PM  New student tour and Q & A. This session is intended for any students who are new to FHMS and who have enrolled since school dismissed in May.

Aug. 7, 1-3 PM  Meet your Teacher. This session is for ALL FHMS students and parents. Students will have their schedules by then, and will be able to walk the campus and say “hello” to teachers before school begins.

Aug. 11, 7:45-11:45  FIRST DAY! As is the tradition in FHUSD, we begin our school year with a half day. No lunch will be served.

Students and parents will notice some changes when they return to school this year. First and foremost, we have scheduled students into academic “teams.” There are two teams at the sixth grade level, one at seventh grade, one at eighth, and one combined 7-8 team. Teaming ensures that students are well-supported in a small learning community at FHMS.

We also welcome a number of new staff members to our school.

Ms. Axtell will be teaching Title I Reading.

Ms. Cassetta will be teaching Catagorical Math.

Mr. Churchill will be moving from reading to Social Studies 6.

Mr. Keating will be teaching Social Studies 8.

Ms. Klun will be teaching Spanish.

Ms. Ludington will be teaching Math 7 & 8.

Mrs. Nichols will be teaching English 7.

Mrs. Perry will be teaching art.

Ms. Wright will be teaching Science 7.

Mrs. Wannamaker will be teaching English 6.

Please welcome our new teachers when you see them!

A number of construction projects are being wrapped up as summer comes to an end. The most noticable is the re-design of our front lobby. We have added a security door which also required that the front counter be moved foward. The work turned out very nice, and it adds an additional level of security to our main entry.

The fire exits on the east and north sides of the building have been paved creating a safer route out of the building for fire drills and evacuation drills.

Pathways have been added in the bike rack area at the front of the school. This will provide for a more orderly arrival and departure from school. It will also minimize traffic in landscaped areas.

The sidewalk that is used for bus loading has been widened to provide for a more orderly loading and unloading of buses.

A press box has been built at the baseball facility. This project was completed through fundraising and donations secured by the varsity baseball program.

New computers have been installed in the library and in Mr. Rush’s room.

Please note our structural improvements when you visit the campus.

Now that the office is open and fully staffed, please check Mr. B’s blog regularly for updates and news. Have a great 2008-09 school year, and call Mr. Brennan or Mrs. Gomez any time you have a question or concern.
