What a GREAT First Week!

Published by under Mr. B's News

Our students were awesome this week! The sixth graders became accustomed to the busy life at FHMS, and the eighth graders got used to life as the “top dogs” on campus. We enjoyed four days of lunch in the cafeteria, and the students did a fantastic job following our expectations and guidelines. Classrooms were buzzing with learning activities as well as team building activities. Our new teachers settled in to their new roles, and did an excellent job. We have a wonderful staff and fantastic students. I am very proud of the conduct of our students this week–let’s keep it up for the next 35 weeks!

There is a clear sense of community among the teams at FHMS. The sixth grade has two teams (Blue and Silver); seventh graders are either part of the Rattlers (Ludington, Novack, Spaeth, Yoder) or the “other-seventh/eighth-grade-team-yet-to-be-named” (Kelly, Nichols, Peterson, Wright); and the eighth grade team is known as Steeel Panther. Teaming creates a small community of learners in which kids and teachers all know each other well. Teaming gives parents an efficient and effective way to “stay on top” of their child’s progress. Please contact your chld’s team if you ever need support or an update.

Teaming does require some attention to administrative detail, and sometimes, teaming creates restrive scheduling. Students and teachers demonstrated exceptional patience as we worked out some of the details of student placement, class size balancing, and team population balancing.

Next week we will host “Back to School Night” on Aug. 21. The event will begin in the multipurpose room at 6 PM with a short introduction by Mr. Brennan and Mrs. Gomez. Parents will then follow an abbreviated student schedule to learn about the child’s classes and teachers. We hope to see you here!

Mr. Brennan is seeking volunteers! If you would like to be a part of our campus this year, please contact Mr. B (tbrennan@fhusd.org; 664-5410)
