We are pleased to announce the first quarter Honor Roll and Perfect Attendance Assemblies on Oct. 15. Each grade level will be recognized at its own honor roll assembly. Sixth grade meets at 7:50; seventh grade meets at 9:15; and eighth grade meets at 8:35. Students received invitations for the event this week in homeroom.
Students earn a spot on the Honor Roll for having a quarterly grade point average of 3.5 or above. Students who earn a 4.0 or above are placed on the Principal’s List.
In order to be recognized for perfect attendance, a student must have no absences or tardies. The only exception is for school activity absences (field trips, athletics, etc.)
Parents are encouraged to attend. The assemblies will all be held in the multipurpose room.

On Friday students do not come to school, but we will be open for conferences 8-11:30 a.m., and 12:30-3:0 p.m.
Conferences are held in an “open” format–no appointments unless you specifically set one up with a teacher. Simply come to the school during these times. Academic teamed teachers will meet in their team rooms. Elective teachers meet in their classrooms.

Ms. Price’s sixth grade English students recently read the story “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros. Here is a quote from the beginning of the story, ” What you don’t understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when you’re eleven, you’re also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one.” This concept led to a fun project for the students.
The students wrote about important events in their eleven years of life. Some of the English teachers had students do a tree of life. Ms. Price’s students made academic choices for themselves about how they would represent their eleven years. Dean wanted to do his in one of his Dad’s recreational vehicles. Another student wrote and illustrated a beautiful book about her 11 years. Another student used a water container with the highlights of their life on strips of paper around the container. There were many very interesting representations of their 11 great years of life.
