Students Share Their Stories of 11

Published by under Mr. B's News

Ms. Price’s sixth grade English students recently read the story “Eleven” by Sandra Cisneros.  Here is a quote from the beginning of the story,   ” What you don’t understand about birthdays and what they never tell you is that when you’re eleven, you’re also ten, and nine, and eight, and seven and six, and five, and four, and three, and two, and one.”  This concept led to a fun project for the students.

The students wrote about important events in their eleven years of life.  Some of the English teachers had students do a tree of life.  Ms. Price’s students made academic choices for themselves about how they would represent their eleven years.  Dean wanted to do his in one of his Dad’s recreational vehicles.  Another student wrote and illustrated a beautiful book about her 11 years.  Another student used a water container with the highlights of their life on strips of paper around the container.  There were many very interesting representations of their 11 great years of life. 10.07.09 002
