Sixth Graders Get Greeky with It

As a part of its studies of ancient Greek culture and history, the sixth grade conducted its annual FHMS Greek Olympics Nov. 13. This event features an opening ceremony, parade of city-states, competitive events, and a lunch featuring Greek food. The sixth grade teachers organized this event. Each sixth grade homeroom assumed the identity of a Greek city-state, created a banner, developed a cheer, and then participated in the skill events. Lunch featured Greek culinary items from Phil’s.
As has been the FHMS tradition, eight grade students were selected to assist with the event.
Following the Greek Olympic event, the sixth graders were treated to a visit from a student’s parents who are Greek historians. The costumes featured here are hand-built, and are made to authentic specifications. in addition to the wonderful costumes, the visitors brought actual Greek artifacts, most over 2000 years old! It was truly an impressive event, and the FHMS sixth grade teachers appreciate their willingness to share.
