Students in Mrs. Olson’s sixth grade English classes recently completed projects based on the tale “The Boy Who Flew.” The story retells the legend from ancient Greek mythology about Icarus who flew too close to the sun with his wax-affixed wings. Reprinted here is the “FHNN” broadcast script of a talk show with the characters. The script was written by Reece Bailey, Jonathan Burris, Scott Fry, Ty Fuller, Zach McClure, and Ryan Waldo.

Intro: Welcome to FHNN I am Reece your host; I’m here with the characters from “The Boy Who Flew”

Host: King Minos, how does feel to have a Minotaur as your son?

King: Well he could eat me but I love him.

Host: Why did you lock up Daedalus and Icarus?

King: Because he tried to kill my beloved son?

Host: Has the Minotaur ever tried to eat you?

King: Every day! But after we feed him a cow it’s all good.

Host: Queen, do you like having a Minotaur as a son?

Queen: Yea… but it has its ups and downs.

Host: Has the Minotaur ever tried to eat you?

Queen: Yea, he tried to bite off my leg once.

Host: What was it like trying to give him an education?

Queen: Well… yeah…ummm… he kinda ate everyone in the school!

Host: Daedalus, how does it feel to be such a remarkable inventor?

Daedalus: Well I really enjoy the inspiration but its pretty tough.

Host: What did it feel like flying?

Daedalus: I felt weightless, like a feather.

Host: How do you feel about your son drowning?

Daedalus: Well he should have listened to me, but now he’s kinda dead.

Host: What did it feel like falling to your death?

Icarus: I sorta blacked out for a bit but then I died.

Host: Will you ever disobey your wise father again?

Icarus: Uhhhh… most likely yes.

Host: What’s the best part of being a spirit?

Icarus: I like to walk through walls, you know it just tickles.

Host: Minotaur, what’s it like being half bull half…

Minotaur: I’LL EAT YOU!!!!

Host: Will you ever go back to school and graduate preschool?

Minotaur: I’LL USE YOUR BONES FOR TOOTHPICKS!

Host: Have you ever tried to escape the maze?

Minotaur: HU…..HU…..HAAAAAAAAA!
