We have had an excellent start to the school year! One might have presumed that it would be a rough start given the move and reconfiguring of our school; however, it has really been great! Oh, there have been a few wrinkles to iron out–vehicle traffic flow during drop off; bells; traffic flow in the hallways; etc. However, most of these items were smoothed over within the first couple days of school. If you or your child has experienced any difficulty with the start of the school year, please contact the teacher or the principal.
Today is picture day! If your child misses picture day, or if you are unhappy with the results, there will be a make up day on September 13.
Our FHMS Curriculum Night is scheduled for August 25, 6-8 PM. Please join us to learn about your child’s schedule and classes.

Please give a warm welcome to our new staff members at FHMS this year:
Seventh grade science: Ms. Cooper. She comes to us after many years of experience as a marine biologist near the Hawaiian Islands!
Spanish: Mrs. Izawa. She is a tri-lingual educator who will bring strength and excellence to our Spanish program.
Eighth grade math: Mrs. Murray. She is familiar to many of our students as a substitute in the district who has an excellent math and engineering background and will prepare our students well for high school.
School counselor: Mrs. Goodell. She comes to us from Fountain Hills High School where she has been the school social worker since 2004 and brings a wealth of knowledge and experience to help our students.
Special education, autism specialist: Mrs. Peters. She has tremendous background and experience in special education and specifically in working with children on the autism/Asperger’s spectrum.
I am very proud of all our new hires this summer! Please welcome them to the FHMS family.

It’s great to be back to another exciting year at FHMS! As you know by now, Four Peaks’ fourth and fifth grades have moved to FHMS. It will be a year of change and exploration, and both Mrs. Gomez and I are excited about our “new school.” There will be adjustments and we will learn as we go; however, all will be well.
The first event of the year is this Friday–Meet Your Teacher, Aug. 5, 1-3 PM. To make things easier on parents and more efficient for all, this Meet Your Teacher event is for all grades 4-8.
Middle school parents–in addition to meeting our teachers, you will be able to purchase PE uniforms, add money to your child’s cafeteria account, update records, and get information about a number middle school programs.
IMPORTANT: Bring your child’s schedule to Meet Your Teacher!
Schedule Changes: Due to class balancing and teacher assignments, we discourage schedule changes, unless we have made a programming error. Please talk to Mr. Brennan, Mr. Galietti, or Mrs. Goodell for questions.
Please check this blog regularly as well as the FHMS Facebook page (www.facebook.com/fhmsfalcons) for updates and school news.
Have a great 2011-2012 school year, and please don’t hesitate to contact me with questions or concerns:

It’s mid-June, and we’re here in the office. “We” is Mr. Galietti, Mrs. Ciotta, Ms. Petrick, and me, Mr. Brennan. It’s quiet and lonely without all of our smart students, but we are busy working on: schedules for next year; back to school mailings; Meet your Teacher (Aug. 5, 1-3 p.m.!); AIMS results; professional development plans for teachers and staff; and other plans for next year. I know, pretty boring stuff. We enjoy it, and it helps us get re-energized and re-focused for next year.
The office is open Monday-Thrusday, 8-3, through June 23. We re-open July 27.
The schedules and back-to-school letter will go out sometime the week of July 25. Keep an eye on your mailbox!
I hope you enjoy the rest of your summer break!
